An illustrated talk by Brigadier Christopher Dunphie
In 2009, we celebrated the 65th anniversary of D Day: 6th June, 1944, the day when 156,000 Allied forces parachuted, landed by glider or stormed ashore on the Normandy coast to begin the liberation of Western Europe – an action which ultimately led to the end of World War II one year later.
In memory of those momentous events and the many brave men that took part, Pitlochry Festival Theatre is delighted to host this D-Day Evening, with proceeds going to The Army Benevolent Fund and the Soldiers’ Sailors’ and Airmen’s Families Association (SSAFA).
Brigadier Christopher Dunphie - an acknowledged lecturer and author on the Normandy campaign - will divide his talk into two parts, describing first the background, planning and achievements of D-Day, and then taking us ‘down onto the ground’ to hear stories of a few of the more significant actions, and dramatic first-hand accounts.
This will be a fascinating evening, full of rare insight and stunning images.
