Anyone care to hazard a guess as to what the function of this is?

It looks like its a transit/sectored navigation marker for vessels that are going to the range. It will work by being a transit marker which lines up with another one thats higher up during the day and as a sectored light at night. There are three similar one on the gareloch for the approach to Faslane.
