I think you might be on your own with this one.
Afraid headsets aren't something I'm likely to need or want, but I might want to buy from someone with a "no-questions" return policy if I couldn't audition them first.
I needed some decent headphones a while ago, and after taking a little advice, went down the Sony route. While not in the silly price range, these were from the maker's best range, and were truly dreadful. To give you an idea in relative terms, they sounded worse than the cheapest pair of tiny "in-ear" earphones that came free with a radio I'd bought earlier, and did not even have a maker's name on them. Although maker's name is no guarantee I was still a bit surprised, as I also had a pair of Sony in-ear items that came with another radio, and they were much, much better than those headphones too.
I eventually replaced then with a pair of anonymous "round the neck" earphones - purchased simply because of the long light cable that ran the length of a room - intended for TV use, and a pair of cheap Wharfedales. Both knocked spots of the supposed "reference" quality of the Sonys, and the Wharfedales made me think I should get round to rewiring my revered pair of original Wharfedale isodynamics, but they need more drive than today's wimpy audio - especially from things like PCs - can deliver for decent volume levels. |
