I'll try and check it out.  I cannot believe there were only 2 blocks.

My sister said a while ago that she had found a picture of an AA Battery near Inverkip on geograph page but she could not find the url.  I have been unable to track it down, maybe you will have more luck.

Trouble with the blocks is they could be new or old, so there's no clues. Too big for beach defences, and they don't look that old. Could be something to do with construction, and they're just abandoned surplus.

As far as I know, I've swept the Kip area on geograph, and there's only the AAOR building to be found - and there's nothing to be photographed battery-wise, unless somebody dug something up somewhere. Then there's the wallies that find a little old telephone exchange building, 1 m x 1 m, inside a wee fenced compound, and think they've found the biggest secret never told from the Cold War era.

We'll see if anything turns up

These remain a mystery, on the beach at Ardgowan Point to the south of Inverkip.  The southern one is a 5 foot cube and the northern one a 4 foot cube.  Both were cast insitu as the bases incorporate local stones.  Neither seem to have any fixing points but the southern one clearly had a structure on it when it was cast.  It seems to be square but offset by 45* and to have been painted with white paint, the other one is totally blank.  I found no signs of brick or concrete debris on the beach from Lunderston Bay to Inverkip with the exception of a stone jetty (almost at the Marina) which had been over layed with concrete blocks.

There is nothing in the woods  of note so nothing to relate to the blocks.  I think the pic came about because he came across them on the shore.  They cannot be seen from the path as it veers slightly inland at that point.

Intriguing.

I'd wondered about them being some sort of abandoned anchor blocks, discarded there, but if you can see that they were cast in-situ, the we can forget that.

They're obviously heavy, but unless they have foundations, and go down into the shore, they're not going to be able to hold anything big, and and anything big in the water would soon drag them.

If it was closer, I'd have suggested something to do with the power station construction, but that's not really a runner, so the next thought is something from the marina's past. Assuming the location is accurate, then they are on the point of the land so might have been some sort of temporary mooring or anchoring point for... something?

Maybe we should be thinking about a "Mystery" or "Puzzle" board in the forum?

I doubt if they are anything to do with the marina as they are too far away.  In any case the history of the marina is that the Holts got the contract to supply sand and gravel for the concrete oil rigs built at Ardyne.  When the contracts ran out they were left with a big hole full of sea water so they turned it into a marina and made even more money.

A mysteries page seems like a good idea.  They show up on aerial at (:mlat:55.9147923:)(:mlon:-4.8819584:)(:mngr6:NS199728:)
