But whatever is wrong lies out in the wilds of internet-land (pray)
I have no host/server errors currently reported relating to any of the site, nor are there any Forum issues (since March, when I stopped kicking it).
Not saying they're related, but I've been suffering access delays since this afternoon, so there may indeed be some issues outside, and although my speed is fine, pages sit dead for up to 30 seconds.
That said, if you can pass on the error message regarding the denial, or a screenshot, it would give a clue.
Your error message is a 403, which is normally issued to someone logged on to the server when they try and access a forbidden directory or address.
Since no-one else is getting the problem, it is local to yourself, and I suspect may be down to delays and timeouts given the wildly variable access speeds you are reporting elsewhere at the moment.
I see the same message occasionally when my speed or access is misbehaving, and take it the server is just applying security on the basis that it suspects all is not well with the PC making the request.
I just leave things alone for a while and retry.
In any event, it's not an message generated under my control - I just create the page that gives the message you provided above - from the Forum or Main Site, but is issued automatically from the servers where the files are hosted, and they don't belong to me, I only 'rent' a tiny little corner.
If it carries on, all I can suggest is Ye Olde Master Reset of PC, browser, and internet box
You had actually removed your test message before I added mine. I went and did something else & when I returned it said your message was the last at 18mins ago which was about the time lapse from my message. Strangely when I tried latest posts it showed me my message and said it had been 18 minutes ago.
It may well be my machine as it has developed a slightly worrying but useful behaviour that might come from an update somewhere. On the internet it leaves a bar down the left hand side where you can still see the wallpaper. When you select say The Forum it lies to the left witha similar narrow band down the righthand side showing the edge of the original page.
Perhaps the wording is not ideal And I just tried a Test Reply too, just to make sure it wasn't an error in the Forum could imply a preceding post, but there wasn't - that post was itself the Test Reply, and the wording was just meant to 'run on' from the post before it
There may be some caching issues in your browser, I'd go into options and clear or delete it manually.
Hitting Ctrl (or Shift depending on browser) and F5 will force the browser to flush and refresh the cache MOST TIMES, but sometimes only restarting works.
If you can see wallpaper then your browser window is not Full Sreen or Maximised, but is a window, almost the size of the full screen. The existence of a slim border betrays the presence of a window, in Full Screen, there is no border visible at all.
Double-click the Title Bar of the window and the size will toggle between Full Screen and Window mode.
It's quite a subtle effect if not seen before, when the Window is the same, or fractionally smaller that the screen, and I've had users who could not understand display problems they were having as a result, as windows will overly one another, while having an application displayed in Full Screen means it overly, but can be overlayed by others - which can be puzzling if not seen before.
I have just tried for the 3rd time to put a message on the Inchinnan Bridge page and got the same result. I seem to be able to post on threads that come up on the LATEST POSTS search but not in any others in the various other lists.
Ok, just a-kidding, but it is true that we don't have an Inchinnan Bridge thread (I'm assuming you meant thread, and not 'page' as was typed), so I'm taking that we're still banging heads with the White Cart Bridge thread.
I really can't think of anything that would generally spite any one person/user at such a specific level, certainly not in any of the available options.
I can cause the same by forbidding access to the info, but it would apply to everyone, including me, as there's no way at this level to differentiate who is browsing.
Dredging about, possibly the last straw I can think of is cookies, so if you whizz into your browser's options (probably under Security) and choose to delete cookies. You could also try going a bit deeper, and search your hard drive for files containing 'blah' and deleting those to make sure the cookie is gone.
Other than that, I think I've run out, and don't have a clue as to why you should be victimised (try another PC without a camera?)
This gets dafter and dafter. I have just managed to add a message to the bridge page successfully so I thought I would add some additional info on a second page and the Trolls spat it straight back at me. I am begining to think there is a word I am using in it (I have no idea what) that upsets the program.
I am not ignoring your advice about removing cookies but I thought I would explore the extent of the problem first. It does seem to be related to the info I was/am trying to add. Most strange.
Thanks to the Fox's tenacity, I have a copy of the message he has been trying to post, and have been able to analyse the content and prove he is not being victimised. In fact, I am now in a position to pass on instruction as to how you too can generate your very on 403 - Forbidden response simply by attempting to post.
The Fox will also be able to make his desired post too, so long as he rephrases it a little.
Clearly I can't post the actual problem character string, but it comprised the name of a piece of port-scanning software, design to detect open ports on a targeted computer. As useful Admin tool, it clearly has the same attraction for those who attack computers. I don't know enough about the system, but it may be that our host/server has some scanning installed to defend again this application's use on the computers that host our service. I can only guess, as that info would not be forthcoming.
Type the following four letters AND the space into a post, and the post will fail as a 403 -Forbidden error page...
n
m
a
p
space
space is just a normal space as obtained from the spacebar.
Type this on its own, or include somewhere inside a message, and it's bye-bye message until you remove or obscure it.
Apollo, I am well aware that you took the trouble to straighten me out on this same question before but.... where the heck does one post one's ideas about dates to remember? Here now, May 10th, the 67th anniversary of Hess landing in Scotland, has been and gone and i don't know if it was remembered or not. Ach.....
You are right in suggesting it was raised before, and posted something somewhere at the time to the effect that it was a bit silly, not the posting as such, but the re-posting of the same thing each year. The problem being that if somebody remembers it, or thinks it's important or relevant enough, then everybody gets to know. But of nobody bothers to post, then it's forgotten and passed without mention.
I know it might be thought that telepathy is needed to know how these anniversaries are dealt with, but since I need to edit the calendar as Admin, what happens is that if someone posts such a date, I'll extract and delete the post (well, only if all it does is give the date - if it's informative, then it stays as a topic).
So, the answer is that it wasn't missed, because it is shown every year in the Scheduled Events (not my choice of name, but it's coded into the forum software) at the foot of the forum.
This shows everything we have for the coming fortnight.
Incidentally, although the mouse pointer doesn't currently change to show that each listed item is a link, clicking on it will take you to a slightly longer explanation - I've pointed this problem out, and the next version of the forum should have this omission corrected
To see the calendar and look at what we have for any other month, just hit the Calendar option at the top of the page. You need to do this for Hess, since the day is past.
To post the Hess anniversary, the 'proper' procedure would be to do a quick search in the forum for 'Hess', and then just post a reminder on that thread to bring it to current notice.
Obviously, if the search subject doesn't turn anything up, then it's time to start a new thread
Since I read everything, if a subject that corresponds to an interesting anniversary is posted, then I add it, so it's better to add an item based on its interest as a subject, which might attract more comments, rather than the date, which of itself is relatively meaningless, if that makes sense.
